MBFC CEO Named SBA Financial Services Champion
MINNEAPOLIS – Alexandra Blum of Minnesota Business Finance Corporation (MBFC) was named Financial Services Champion for Minnesota and the Midwest region by the Minnesota office of the United States Small Business Administration (SBA).
“Alex’s contributions to expanding America’s economic base through small-business development have been extraordinary,” said Patrick Rea, the SBA’s region administrator for the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.
The Financial Services Champion award is presented annually in each state to individuals who assist small businesses through advocacy efforts to increase the usefulness and availability of accounting or financial services. The regional award winner is selected from among the state winners.
Blum was credited for making significant contributions through the financial services industry to assist small businesses. Under Blum’s leadership, MBFC originated a record number of low-interest, fixed-rate SBA 504 commercial real estate and equipment loans last year. In 2005, MBFC originated 100 SBA 504 loans totaling $45.4 million on $129 million in projects. The loans created 887 jobs and retained 979 jobs in Minnesota.
With Blum as its president and CEO since 1998, MBFC has originated $250 million worth of SBA 504 loans, providing significant job and economic growth to local communities.
Blum’s recent efforts to generate business growth at the grassroots level led MBFC to present a $250,000 grant to Brainerd’s Central Lakes College Small Business Development Center, one of nine small-business development centers helping businesses apply for SBA 504 loans in the state. The grant was matched dollar-for-dollar with state and federal funds, generating a total of $500,000 for long-term, small-business development in the growing North-Central region.
Blum will be honored at an SBA awards ceremony on May 5.
